Disposable waste workers in developing countries contribute significantly to the commitment to the pollution of plastic. GRID-Arendal has, in collaboration with strategic partners, developed a unique, geographically adapted capacity building tool titled Awareness & Capacity Building of Women in the Informal Recycling Sector. Toolkit for Facilitators". This innovative tool, with its distinctive features developed to promote fair restructuring for women in the long-range recycling sector, offers unprecedented options for awareness, strengthening and capacity development. GRID-Arendal is planning, with support from GIZ, to test the tool in Kenya, focusing on women in the public plastic recovery sector. For this pilot project, Awareness and Capacity Building of Women in the Informal Recycling Sector: Pilot Implementation of a Toolkit in Kenya, GRID-Arendal will collaborate with local partners, including Kisumu Waste Pickers Welfare Association, to carry out virtual training of local trainers in business development, capacity building, raising awareness and strengthening women in the world-class recycling sector. The project activities include: • Start-up meeting and information to the local community • Pre-training • Planning a training workshop for women in the top-notch recycling sector in Kisumu, Kenya • Online training of local trainers, led by international experts • Implementation of a training workshop in Kisumu for women in the long-distance recycling sector, led by local trainers • Reporting - follow-up and assessment of the effect of the training workshop Mer information can be found in the annexes.
