Description du marché

Mater Dei Hospital (MDH) serves as Malta’s primary acute care facility, offering a wide range of emergency, inpatient, and outpatient care services to both Maltese and foreign residents. Over time, the Emergency Department (ED) services have adapted to meet the increasing demand and enhance service quality; however, this has resulted in expansion beyond the existing physical space, thus presenting challenges in meeting current requirements. The proposed development encompasses the expansion of the current Emergency Department footprint with a two-floor permanent structure to be constructed between the side of the Emergency Department and the Medical Imaging Department, extending into, and encompassing the entire car park in front of the current Emergency Department. The ground floor will accommodate the ED extension and pantry, while the first floor will contain the ED offices, changing rooms, and other essential staff amenities, designed to meet the hospital’s demands for the next 10-20 years. The objective of the ED project is to establish a functional ED with efficient patient flow and a safe environment for staff to operate. Various aspects of modern ED planning should be considered and examined to achieve an optimal design for the available footprint, with an adequate and appropriate clinical versus non-clinical area ratio, based on current statistics and trends. This should enhance patient care and satisfaction, while increasing operational efficiency. Above the extended ED, new Acute Mental Health Wards will be constructed, compromising of 10 wards providing a total of 136 beds designed to deliver high-quality psychiatric care. A significant feature of this facility will be a therapeutic garden, offering patients a tranquil outdoor environment conducive to patient recovery and well-being. This initiative aims to consolidate Acute Mental Health services within a state-of-the-art facility designed to address the needs of mental health patients at MDH, marking the first such endeavour in Malta. This comprehensive expansion seeks to enhance the hospital's capacity to provide critical mental health services while maintaining a patient-centered approach.
