Ensuring EFSA’s readiness to address risk assessment needs related to food and feed innovation

An open call (procurement, direct contract) will be launched to support EFSA’s preparedness for (short-/mid-term) risk assessment needs related to food and feed innovation (Harmonise, Accelerate, Improve). The envisaged tasks for the awarded organisation(s) include: 1) Selection of priority food and feed innovation domains (i.e., innovative food and feed products, novel technologies/practices) based on EFSA’s risk assessment needs and real-world scientific/technological insight (e.g., through engagement of relevant stakeholders); 2) Mapping of stakeholders and scientific/technical expertise, and analysis of stakeholder interactions/dynamics and their impact on the selected domains in (1); 3) Design of strategic, actionable blueprints to address EFSA’s regulatory-science needs linked to the selected domains in (1), including, e.g.,: To support the development and revision of EFSA’s guidance documents towards fit-for-purpose risk assessments, improved dossier quality and speed of risk assessment To inform priority BAU (business as usual) and developmental projects and to facilitate annual prioritisation exercises for new investments To assist in the assembly (composition/structure) of ad hoc EFSA Working Groups/Panels and to strengthen partnerships and stakeholder engagement To inform joint programming exercises (MS) and long-term strategic planning (EFSA’s strategy) To advocate for future science funding (DG RTD), and to MS (ownership of some challenges associated to the selected domains) and stakeholders To support EFSA’s career and talent management, and capacity building on future scientific needs The quality award criteria will prioritise a detailed description of robust, comprehensive and high-throughput methodological approaches for implementing the above-listed tasks (e.g., participatory stakeholder workshops), along with a showcase of blueprint designs for selected case studies relevant to EFSA.
