GIS PLATFORM FOR GENOMIC DR-TB SURVEILLANCE AND DR-TB PRECISION PUBLIC HEALTH

One of the desired components of the MAGMA-MICK platform is a generic geographic information system (GIS)-based sub-platform to map the acquisition and spread of drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) in communities. We require the development of this sub-platform to be fully integrated into and the MAGMA-MICK platform. The data collected through the GIS Platform must be able to feed back into existing national or regional dashboards, e.g. the Western Cape DR-TB dashboard. The GIS Platform should also be able to integrate publicly available contextual aggregated data and synthesize it (preferably using AI methods) to guide tailored public health interventions aimed at stopping and preventing the DR-TB transmission. The system should efficiently capture the geographic locations of TB patient diagnoses and map the drug resistance profiles and genomic relatedness of different Mtb strains. The main objective is to enhance our understanding of TB transmission dynamics, enabling the identification of transmission hotspots and superspreading events. By visualising and interpreting genomic drug-resistant TB diagnostic data spatially, the GIS system will play an important role in informing intervention strategies aimed at curbing the transmission of drug-resistant TB.
