The project concerns the open-source component "GStreamer", which serves as a technical framework for the processing and rendering of multimedia data and which is widely used in many systems. Through different milestones, this project aims in particular to systematically analyse and technically enhance the existing functionalities of selected components of “GStreamer” and to migrate them to the memory-safe programming language "Rust“. The aim of this project is mainly to sustainably reduce existing security-critical vulnerabilities, increase the stability of media processing and improve its maintainability. Overall, it therefore contributes to enhancing the security, trustworthiness and robustness of this central open-source component in the public interest.
