Self-contained X-ray-based irradiator for biological material

The University of Turku intends to purchase a self-contained X-ray-based irradiator for biological material to be used for cells and small laboratory animals. The main requirements for the system include precise radiation dose delivery to the biological specimen and to the whole body of the animal. The system must include the possibility to irradiate cultured cells and cell suspensions and small laboratory animals such as mice. The system must be able to deliver the radiation dose with the desired parameters, such as dose rate, energy and time. The system has to be accessible to scientists with a biomedical background and to be properly shielded against radiation leakage and improper use.
