The Commission's Directorate-General for Digital Services (DIGIT) is in charge of implementing two electronic signature services and one electronic identification service: • the Digital Europe Programme (DIGITAL) eSignature service (“DIGITAL-eSig”), which supports the root of trust established in the eIDAS Regulation 910/2014 and provides a reference implementation of technical capabilities for handling electronic signatures (the DSS library, which can be used as a building block by solution providers); • the Digital Europe Programme (DIGITAL) eID service (“DIGITAL-eID”), which enables the mutual recognition of national electronic identification schemes across borders; • the EU Sign service (“EU Sign”), built upon the DIGITAL-eSig DSS library, which offers electronic signature handling capabilities conformant to eIDAS towards applications and users of EU institutions, bodies and agencies (“EUIBAs”). The scope of the services described is to progress in the transition from legacy to new solutions (software capabilities and architecture, infrastructure platforms) in both EU Sign and DIGITAL-eSig and DIGITAL-eID contexts, as well as to further evolve towards a DevSecOps delivery model.
