The aim of the agreement is to facilitate a joint clinical veterinary service for Rana and Hemnes duty district. Rana and Hemnes municipalities have previously co-operated in the area, where a resource has been employed as a municipal veterinary surgeon in Hemnes municipality to cover the needs of both municipalities. The working relationship with the municipal veterinary surgeon has ended and the municipalities now need to purchase this service in the market. Adequate veterinary coverage is important in regard to animal health, animal welfare and food safety and for being able to have active agriculture in the district. The agreement shall ensure veterinary services, primarily for production animals, but also safeguard the necessary animal welfare emergency assistance for pets/small animals in the district. The contract is intended to fulfil the municipalities ́ responsibilities in accordance with the Animal Health Personnel Act § 3a.
