VMware Licenses 2024-2027

Within EirGrid, we use VMware as it is a market leader in providing virtualization software (i.e. a “hypervisor”). A hypervisor is a type of software, firmware, or hardware that creates and runs virtual machines by separating the operating system from the physical hardware. It reduces the physical footprint of data centres by clustering processing power, storage and networking. EirGrid’s existing EMS, I-SEM and Corporate environments all use software from VMware for virtualization. VMware therefore underpins all of EirGrid critical infrastructure. Crucially, these licences will allow us to use VMware software and to avail of their crucial 24*7 support and maintenance services, which includes access to technical resources and a dedicated account manager as a point of contact for such issues. EirGrid intends to renew these licences for a further 2.5 years, up to 18th March 2027.
